Travel data basics: what an eSIM changes

An eSIM is a digital SIM profile stored in a compatible device. It can let you add a travel data plan without swapping a plastic card, while the actual coverage and terms still depend on the provider and its partner networks.

Before you go

Before buying, check your exact device model, carrier lock, included countries, validity start rule and refund terms. Keep your main carrier’s roaming plan separate from the travel plan.

  • Check that every country on your trip appears in the coverage list.
  • Read the plan validity and the event that starts its clock.
  • Treat local-currency displays as estimates; the checkout USD amount is the amount charged.

If the instructions don’t match your phone

Inventory, coverage and activation rules can change. Read the terms attached to the exact package at checkout, and save a copy for your trip.
